Evil All Around

Reading the Old Testament:

  • Examples of what NOT to do
    (1 Corinthians 10:6-7, 11)
  • Testimonies of faith (Hebrews 11)
  • Instruction in hope (Romans 15:4)
  • Revelation of God’s character and will (Psalm 119)
  • Point to the Messiah (Luke 24:27, 44)

Beware the influential pattern of evil society!

  1. Uphold responsibility, not excuses 29-30

Evil influences children, spouses, society, and everyone around!
We are accountable for our own actions, despite everyone else’s evil and failure!
Guard against compromising integrity to fit in, or “because everyone is doing it!”

  1. Choose righteousness, not expediency 31-33

Circumstances going well does not necessarily mean the path was right!
We can be practically strategic, while disobeying and dishonoring the Lord.
Idolatry is a consuming and enslaving sin.  Run away! (1 Corinthians 6:14)

  1. Honor Scripture, not preference 34

Scripture is not silent about the high cost of sin!
Idolatry starts you down a path of denying God and serving self.
Sin callouses the heart to disregard all consequences. (Ephesians 4:19)
Jesus became a curse for us, that we might have life! (Galatians 3:10, 13)
