3 - Only a Sinner Saved by Grace

Are there DEGREES of sin?

  • Any one sin is enough to separate us from God. (James 2:10)
  • Everyone who sins is cursed. (Galatians 3:10)
  • Sin encompasses a spectrum. (Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28)
  • The Bible has comparative descriptions (John 19:11, Matthew 7:1-5, 11:24, Mark 12:40…)
  • One of the most frustrating sins to God is that of empty religion! (Matthew 15:7-9, Matthew 23)

Major concerns with homosexuality:

  • *It is NOT the unpardonable sin (Mark 3:28-29)
  • It is a sin on which people build an identity and lifestyle.
  • It goes against nature. (Romans 1:26-27)
  • It has become acceptable and celebrated. (Romans 1:32)

Represent the power of the gospel!

  1. Challenge ungodly living 8-11

The goal is not primarily a changed behavior, but a changed relationship with God through the gospel! (1 Tim 1:15, 1 Cor 6:11)
Discern: should I address their homosexuality?

  • Homosexuality contradicts sound teaching.
  • The law cannot save lost sinners!
  1. Emphasize your abundant sin 13, 15-16

Share your own testimony, and build the bridge to identify with others!
Own your sin, and call it what it is: SIN!
Warning: Don’t presume on God’s kindness and patience! (Romans 2:4)
Humble yourself: “I am the worst sinner!”

  1. Proclaim God’s abundant mercy 12, 14-16

Jesus came to save sinners, not to judge them. (But He’s coming again for that – 2 Tim 4:1)
Be an example of God’s saving, transforming, and pursuing grace!
It took God’s abundant grace, mercy, and patience to save ME!
…And He’s still working on me!
